Course Overview: Welcome to our Introductory Barn Ratting Dog Training Class, designed to introduce you and your dog to the exciting world of barn ratting in a safe and controlled environment. This class is perfect for dogs of all breeds and sizes who have a natural instinct for hunting and enjoy using their keen sense of smell. No prior experience is necessary, and all skill levels are welcome. Introduction to Barn Ratting: Learn the basics of barn ratting, including the history of the sport and its benefits for your dog. Safety and Handling: Understand the importance of safety for both dogs and rats. We prioritize the well-being of all animals involved. Scent Training: Engage your dog's natural instincts through scent detection exercises, teaching them to locate hidden rats using their nose. Search and Indicate: Train your dog to search for and indicate the presence of rats without physical contact. Obedience and Control: Improve your dog's obedience skills and ensure they can follow commands in a stimulating environment. Positive Reinforcement: Use positive reinforcement techniques to encourage desired behaviors and make the training process enjoyable for your dog. Rat Safety and Welfare: Our top priority is the safety and well-being of the rats used in the training sessions. The rats are beloved pets of the class instructor and are treated with the utmost care and respect. Here are the measures we take to ensure their safety: Secure Enclosures: Rats are kept in secure, escape-proof enclosures that prevent any physical contact with the dogs. These enclosures allow the rats to be hidden but still accessible for scent detection. Stress Minimization: Rats are rotated and given breaks to prevent stress. Their environment is designed to be comfortable and stimulating. Professional Supervision: All training activities are supervised by experienced professionals who monitor the interact Session Length: 8-weeks Class Length: 1-hour Fee (includes taxes): $271.20 Instructor: Julie Connor, Rats!
